Interactive Data Exploration Tool: Asylum Applications in Mexico

I created this dashboard to enable non-technical users to perform their own exploratory data analysis on a data set of asylum applications procured from the Mexican refugee authority COMAR.

Because the source data was originally only available as a massive and unweidly Excel spreadsheet containing more than 430,000 rows of data, I wanted to visualize and summarize the information in a way that would allow anyone to explore some key questions like “Where are the majority of asylum applications in Mexico filed?” and “What group by nationality represents the majority of asylum-seekers in Mexico?”

The tool was built with Google Data Studio, and leverages BigQuery to cache data queries, limiting latency when loading in the large amount of underlying data.
